Like most liberal ideological causes, it looks great on paper. The
problem is that there is absolutely no way that it will work in
practice. Now I know that I have not heard the whole plan in its
entirety, but you can see how the government runs medicine all across
America. Look in any county hospital, and see how the government runs
health care systems.
It is scary
enough the waste that goes along with some of the beauruecratic
nightmares that have come from the grandest and noblest ideas. Welfare
is a good example. It was meant to be a “hand up” not a hand out. And
four or five generations later it is finally heading in the intended
direction. Have you ever heard the stories about outrageous military
spending, think about what a hospital system could do with that kind of
extra padding. And while you are thinking of misuse and abuse think
about how often some people go to the Emergency Room as their primary
care physician, because they do not see or feel the costs of the trip.
Hell, it’s covered by either insurance or Medicaid. I could go on and
on about how illegal immigrants are ruining our health care system.
The problem
is that when it comes to “Health Care Reform”, or reforming anything,
the United States Government is not known for reform. They may change
the finances of the health care system, or rather the financing of
health care.
When you
look at the way our health care is financed today, and yes we do finance
our own health care, we generally use an employer funded health care
plan. I say employer funded because when you really look at the
percentage paid by you the employee it is generally no where near 100%.
If you do not pay 100% then you are financing a portion of your health
care insurance premiums. Kind of like the way our parents looked at
retirement. I know that my Grandpa thought that Social Security was
going to be enough, and it was not. Thank God he did not count on the
Government alone. I watch my Dad starting to go through some of the
same things as Grandpa did 15-20 years ago. The dollar amounts may be
close to the same, but the dollars don’t go nearly as far as they did
back then. The Government cannot keep up with the cost of living. It
continues to cost more every year to just get by, we may not be paying
more payroll taxes but our taxes continue to increase in the debit
column.
The fact
that it will never work as promised is not the crux of the issue
though. What we really need to focus on is the end point. Ok, I will
concede that if I were to get cancer of the brain I could never afford
the caliber of doctors or care that Bill Gates or Rush Limbaugh can.
And that has nothing to do with how hard they actually have worked over
the course of their lives. They did pay their dues with blood sweat and
tears like everyone else does; the big difference is that they came up
with an idea at the right time and were able to turn that idea into
dollars. God Bless the USA. You won’t find this type of story in Cuba,
Canada, or anywhere in the Middle East.
Here is
where you actually have to stop and think about where this road will end
up leading us. I mean where does it end. When do we expect people to
actually work for what they earn not what can we give them. Why don’t
we have socialized auto insurance? Most states have made it mandatory
to have a valid insurance card to prove that you have coverage while you
are driving. If it is mandatory why doesn’t the Federal Government
provide it for us like they propose to do with our health care system
isn’t it? How about car maintenance? Is it really fair that some of us
in America, the haves, are able to properly maintain their cars? Why
should the poor be stuck driving 15 year old cars while the rich putt
around in band new Lexus’ and Bentleys’? You can even go as far as to
say that if we give so much of our taxpayer’s dollars to poor countries,
and spend so much to defeat Al Quada in Iraq and other places in the
world we can afford to spend three to four hundred thousand every few
years so our impoverished can drive in style. What about where we
live? Have you every seen a picture of the palace that Bill Gates lives
in? Just him, his wife and a couple of kids live in that giant house,
if you can call that behemoth a house. Ooops almost forgot about the
property that surrounds the house as well. Most of our major cities
police forces cannot keep the gangbangers out of the parks in our poorer
neighborhoods. You know what; we should all be given places just as big
and grand as his.
Yes, that
last paragraph sounds kind of goofy doesn’t it? But isn’t that
basically what Hillary Care is all about? It even runs into the mantra
of “Two Americas” doesn’t it? It also sounds very similar to the
writings and teachings of Lennon and Marx. No one should have to earn
anything! Everyone gets what they need! It is especially enticing when
someone else is footing the bill. The question that needs to be
answered then is; who will be footing that bill? I think the answer is
apparent to most of us who are over the age of thirty five. No one.
Why work hard to get ahead when all of your production is going to keep
someone else afloat?
Look
at what has gone in Russia over the past century. They espoused the
same philosophy that those on the left are standing behind today. Scary
isn’t it?
Then
why are so many Americans defending these positions? I would only be
guessing when I say because we as Americans have gone soft. We do more
today to feel good about ourselves than we ever have. Not that
Americans don’t have enough to feel good about, because we do more than
our share globally. Think back to the major earthquakes in Iran while
we were fighting a Global War on Terror, and rendering humanitarian aid
to the tsunami victims, and trying to fix New Orleans here at home. I
don’t remember any other nation helping so many people at the same time
in recorded history. And above all of that when we sent in equipment
and supplies into Iran they were not even friends of ours. What have
they done for us over the past thirty years? Well besides working
against us in the United Nations and taking our Embassy Staff hostage
for almost a year and a half. We even pay more than our share of the
worlds bills through the United Nations to get things done that go
directly against our own national interests. Maybe that is the problem;
the American left is promoting Global Class Envy.
We
are not the old Soviet Union. We are not Cuba. We aren’t even France.
And we do not want to emulate any of them. They want to emulate us,
they just cannot until they get the mindset that we had 100 years ago.
Not even we can boom like we did 100 years ago if we don’t get back to
the way of thinking that made us what we are, for now anyway. The
Greatest Nation in recorded history.
